Yeah but notice the arrangements of those songs are totally wimpy? Nothing with a beat you can even tap your foot to. Kids like poppy sort of music they can wiggle and clap to. That music makes me visualise children in Pyongyang twirling in synch in front of a great big statue of the Dear Leader.

Also a place mentioned in Exodus was not even built when Moses and his mob were supposedly wandering around!

The Memorial campaign: What question from a householder would have made you think?
by Faithful Witness ini know that soon, the jws in our area will be out in full force, on their hit and run campaign with invitations to the memorial.
.
did you ever encounter a householder during this campaign, that made you stop and think about what you were doing?

Ima hope I won't be home. My husband will hole up and pretend he doesn't hear them if he's home by himself.
It's hard to ask just one question that will get a JW thinking. I know for me, it was years of questions and reading and then finally JWfacts and JWsurvey to help me put it all together. Still, if you come up with just one thing, it could be a small piece of an overall load that will get them thinking. One thing said to me in a campaign like this was by a Christian man who told me that he knows a lot of JWs who are good eggs, but doesn't sense the 'spirit' in them. Perhaps he was referring to their lacklustre stares that come from years of mind numbing cult activities, or a general hollowness of soul. It made me think that maybe God works through others, not just JWs.

Are You Comfortable With Who You Now Are?
by minimus inmany jws are misfits and many that were raised as jws find it difficult to be "normal".
are you comfortable with yourself at this point in time?.

I'm a bit afraid of my authentic self. It's slowly reemerging and it's not all good. I'm happier that I can express myself and do things I like, but it has been difficult to renegotiate my opinions about things I only had the wt opinion on, such as gay marriage, politics and that. My authentic personality is very blunt and quite overbearing at times, something tempered by my years as a jw. Also I learned to deal with my anger management issues as a jw, and even now I have to consciously keep it in check.
Overall though I am happier because I am me and don't have to feel bad about decisions that work for me, rather than the cookie cutter wt prescribed decisions.I can now openly admit what I kept secret during my jw years, that I was damn proud of my brother and what he achieved in the military. Holding my own opinions definitely puts me in a better space, but I am worried about the negative aspects of my authentic self emerging.

JWs view dating as a prelude to marriage, which puts a lot of pressure on you. When deciding to date someone (if you can get interest as a JW) the first thing is, "Could I marry this person down the track?" Even though the purpose is to see if you would like to marry them (you haven't made the decision) that pressure is always there from the beginning. This could be part of why you are afraid of it.

I reckon it's just to keep them busy and drum up enthusiasm and count more auxilliary pioneers. It's also used as an opportunity to push shy kids into becoming publishers.

A Purpose
by DeWandelaar in"everything in life has a purpose" is something a lot of (religious) people tend to say.
i used to believe that too... but i have always been wandering about animals, bacteria and everthing around us.
what purpose is there?

I wondered as a JW, what was the purpose of ticks, fleas, tapeworms, viruses, liver flukes, botflies, mozzies, and all those other nasty parasites? Why did Jehovah create them? Well, I don't think they have a purpose. They just are.

1914 - "A Turning Point In History"?
by Bobcat inthe february 2014 public wt has a cover series of articles dealing with world war i, and by inference 1914. the articles describe wwi as 'causing the world to be changed' and as "a turning point in history.".
setting the wt's defective 1914 chronology aside for a minute, how do these statements about wwi coincide with the view of the nt?.
certainly wwi was a big war.

I believe it was, but not because of anything biblical. It was the beginning of the era of mechanized warfare and the beginning of the end of European imperial dominance. It was an abrupt about turn of established order in Europe. It was definitely a European historic turn point. Yet, it is not the only turning point in modern history as jws would say. 9/11 was one too, and there have been many in the centuries past like 1517, when Martin Luther sparked the reformation. It's just with jws prophecy, well they got one close to half right. If you throw enough rocks into a crowd, eventually you'll hit someone.

I was never told that JW's were expected to believe the same thing.
They never told me that either, or I wouldn't have joined. There is a lot they don't tell you when you study. Even after being baptised for years, there is a lot you aren't told. They misrepresent and withhold information, and if you challenge them, then they come down on you with all this stuff, and you're like, WTF? I've been in 15 years and didn't know they can take my family away from me for not believing xyz?!
This religion bears most of the hallmarks of a cult.

The reason you've never come up against the uniformity of thought imposed on JWs is you have avoided the WT. The Bible can be interpreted various ways and there is no end to what you can learn about it, but the journey into Jehovah's Witnessdom quickly becomes an exercise into conforming your views to what the Watchtower says the Bible says about things, not what the Bible says itself.
